If you want to tap into bore water for your building, then you need to find a suitable pumping solution. If you use this water as part of a manufacturing process, you need a robust and reliable system that delivers the water you need when you need it.

While some people use submersible pumps in this scenario, it's sometimes better to use a surface-mount pump. What are the benefits of going above ground here?

Get Easy Running Checks

If you install a surface bore pumping system, then most of the pump is above ground. Typically, the only part of the system that goes into the bore is the suction pipe.

If you use a submersible pump, then most of the system is under the water in the bore. You may not be able to access it easily to check that it is running OK. You may not know that something is going wrong until the pump stops working correctly or breaks down.

If the main parts of the pump stand above ground, then you can monitor their operation much more easily and closely. For example, you can set up key monitors, like pressure gauges, in places where they are easy to read. This makes everyday maintenance checks a lot easier. If you can spot minor problems early, they are often an easier and more cost-effective fix.

Get Easy Maintenance Access

At some point, all bore pumps will need maintenance. This may be a regular check or a repair.

Submerged pumps are harder to access than ones that stand above ground. You have to get to the pump to check or fix it. Even if you just need to make a minor tweak or repair, this could involve removing the pump completely to get it out of the water. Or, if the pump can be dealt with in situ, you may need specially trained maintenance technicians. Dealing with an underwater pump in a borehole environment needs special skills.

If your pump is above ground, then this all becomes less of a problem. You may not have to shut the whole system down to make a minor repair or check. Even if you do need to close things down, work should move more quickly if all of the key parts of the system are easily visible and accessible at ground level.
